Ofcom dismisses every complaint of bias against Jeremy Corbyn about UK broadcasters
Summary:
Despite the fact that the BBC and Channel 4 News are supposed to be objective, Jeremy Corbyn and his supporters have called the two institutions out for their biases against him during their news reports. The supporters had made complaints about this to Ofcom regulators. However, it seems that they are oblivious to the fact that the BBC are self regulators as opposed to being involved with Ofcom, therefore the complaints have gone to the wrong people. However, the BBC had refused to disclose information about the figures of complaints they'd received regarding the matter at hand.
•139 complaints about broadcasters' coverage
•Ofcom has dismissed 72 complaints about bias fromt the channels it regulates
•It also dismissed a further 67 complaints over the past year which were deemed “out of remit” because they were against the BBC.
•The highest single number of complaints came in September 2015 when Mr Corbyn was first elected leader.
•A journalist infuriated Corbyn's supporters during an interview due to using a standard technique employed by journalists leading to 35,000 people signing a petition to have her sacked for “bias”.
My personal opinion:
I personally see this as a violation of the code that these broadcasters claim to stand by. It takes away from the authenticity of the News and seems to be based more on opinion rather than factual evidence. I can completely understand why Corbyn and his supporters are annoyed at this situation. However, I think that if this is the case and that's what the BBC and Channel 4 News want to broadcast, they should probably find a new platform to do so since it simply isn't permitted on television broadcasting.
