How has news changed in the last 20 years?

In the last 20 years, the style of News broadcast has altered quite a lot and has impacted both institutions and their respective audiences alike. One of the major changes is the development of New and Digital Media which has had a huge impact on the way News is both produced and received by people.

It used to be the case that traditional media outlets such as radio, television and print (newspapers, magazines) were being utilised for audience purposes regularly. However, this is clearly no longer the case as we've seen declines in the reception of radio, television and print newspapers.
One particular platform that has transformed since the 1990s is Satellite Television which has progressed both positively and negatively and the recent years. Technology-wise, Satellite television has improved massively. However, popularity-wise, there has been a large decrease in the numbers of those who receive their news from the television, This therefore shows that audiences no longer rely on the traditional platform of television for their News updates but rather they are using an alternative platform to stay informed. This is where the internet took over as a major news source, between 2008 and 2010.

Regarding firms, there's been a mixture of positive and negative impacts being made on institutions as improvements in the new way of broadcasting news (via e-Media) has enabled upcoming firms to become popular and make an impact on the audiences. This increases their revenue and power of the masses. However, the negative aspect is derived from the downfall caused to existing News outlets who still utilise traditional media platforms for their firms. This means that newer generations would be less inclined to use the old services and would most likely (particularly if they are a mainstreamer) abandon these services to jump on the bandwagon of the new outlets.

In conclusion, changes in the way News is produced and received generally has a negative impact on institutions (namely the old popular corporations) and a positive impact on audiences who can now access a greater variety of news outlets that appeal to their particular interests.
