Are mobiles changing how we shop?
Due to the increasing number of people utilising their smartphones in their day-to-lives, it could only have been anticipated that eventually, these devices would be the first port of call for their online shopping experiences, too. This article discusses the new statistics which prove the frequency of online sales using mobile devices and displays the revolution of how a daily task such as shpping has been completely transformed all at the hands of one device.
Summary:
Industry experts said it marked a milestone in our changing buying habits.
51 per cent of online sales between November and January last year in the UK involved hand-held devices rather than traditional computers or laptops. This figure, previously was 40 per cent the year prior, showing an 11 percent increase. (IMRG)
This occurrence has been attributed to improvements by retailers themselves in making their online shopping sites easier to view on mobile devices.
The trade director at John Lewis, said: “Mobile is undoubtedly our fastest growing sales channel."
My opinion:
I think that online shopping has been changed by the ability to perform this task on our mobiles. It has meant that we can shop on the go which can be useful for busy workers who barely have any time to themselves. It is also beneficial to companies as this expands their sales since it is a growing phenomenon that more and more people are partaking in. This is, in my opinion, a positive change in technology which has allowed consumers and businesses to advance in their day to day lives improving efficiency and making processes easier to complete.
